Haiti - Reconstruction : A new Military Engineering Contingent in Haiti

While there is much talk in Haiti about the departure of the Minustah, a new Military Engineering Contingent, is arrived in Haiti, as part of the Resolution 1908 of the Security Council of the United Nations of January 19, 2010 for "the support to the immediate efforts of rehabilitation, econstruction and stabilization" of Haiti.

This is the Indonesian Military Engineering Contingent (INDOENGCOY), composed of 148 members, that will be deployed to Gonaives under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Winarno.

The arrival of the contingent INDOENGCOY (sixth) put the number of indonesian military engineers in Haiti to 167.

The others Military Engineering Contingent are those of Brazil (BRAENGCOY), Korea (ROKENGCOY), Chile, Ecuador (CHICUENGCOY), Japan (JAPENGCOY) and Paraguay (PARENGCOY).

The Military Engineering Contingent working mainly in construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure, roads, bridges, canals, removal of debris. But these sontingents have also a social purpose, visiting orphanages to make donations...
