Haiti - Politic : Haitians excluded from free movement in the Caribbean, the Chancellery clarifies the words of the PM

CARICOM leaders ended their summit in Trinidad and Tobago by agreeing to the free movement of all categories of people by March 2024, an arrangement that does not include Haiti, at the request of Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry, given the humanitarian, social and political crisis in the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifies that the Prime Minister has never asked to exclude our country from the provisions of the treaties concerning the free movement of persons in the area of the Caribbean community (CARICOM) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39986-haiti-caricom-ariel-henry-refuses-free-movement-for-haitians.html . "Prime Minister Henry only noted that Haiti was not in a position to fulfill this facility immediately and therefore requested that Haiti be temporarily excluded from this arrangement."

The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley confirmed and explained "The Prime Minister of Haiti has requested that the arrangements we have put in place for freedom of movement, that Haiti be exempt from these arrangements, and we have accepted because Haiti's circumstances are different at this point and it's a very delicate situation. Thus, the status quo will remain for countries that, in fact, still have visa requirements for Haitians."
