Haiti - Belgium : Prime Minister Henry in Brussels for the EU-CELAC summit

On Saturday July 15, 2023, Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, at the head of a delegation composed, among others, of the Ministers of Economy and Foreign Affairs as well as the National Authorizing Officer left the country for Belgium where he will take part, on July 17 and 18, in the 3rd Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC), in Brussels (Belgium).

It should be recalled that the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean have a long-standing partnership based on common values and a common attachment to democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law. Together they represent more than a third of the membership of the United Nations and are a force for a strong multilateral system.

This summit will be co-chaired by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, in his capacity as president pro tempore of CELAC. The President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy will also participate.

On the agenda of the Summit with a view to strengthening the EU-CELAC partnership, we can mention among others:

- the strengthening of cooperation within multilateral forums;

- regional peace and stability;

- trade and investment;

- economic recovery;

- efforts to combat climate change;

- research and innovation;

- justice and security for citizens.

On the sidelines of this summit, which will bring together more than thirty Heads of State and Government, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with leaders of European, Latin American and Caribbean countries.

In his absence, the interim in Haiti is provided by the Minister of Public Health, Alex Larsen.
