Haiti - Immigration : Arrest of 146 Haitians illegally settled on the lands of Barahona

Agents of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), supported by members of the Dominican army, agents of the national police, soldiers of the Specialized Corps of Border Security (Cesfront) and members of the civil defense, as auxiliaries, intervened in various sectors and communities of the province of Barahona.

During operations in the Los Cocos region, the community of La Colonia de Juancho, among other towns in the southern province, 146 Haitians were arrested in an irregular migration situation.

The actions were carried out following a call from the Neighborhood Councils of the communities who declared that Haitians were invading private lands and that some 29 huts inhabited by them established on private properties, had to be evicted.

After the operation, the illegals were sent to the detention center of Haina, for purification and subsequent expulsion, while contacting the Haitian authorities responsible for the reception of undocumented migrants.

During the interventions, a man known as "Yoni El Pastor" was identified, he was supposedly working to protect undocumented Haitian nationals. The authorities are investigating this individual to determine if he is part of a human trafficking network from Haiti.
