According to a note from the Ministry of Immigration of the Bahamas, a woman of Haitian origin who was part of a group of 143 migrants in an irregular migratory situation died on the plane intended for their repatriation to Haiti.

"As the plane was about to take off, it had to return abruptly due to complications with one of the female passengers who had health issues on board the plane,” the ministry said.

Immediate medical assistance was provided by the nurse stationed at Lynden Pindling International Airport (on the island of New Providence) as well as by paramedics from the fire services.

The Doctor's Hospital emergency medical team also arrived by ambulance to provide further medical assistance.

Despite the efforts, the Haitian migrant passed away during the medical intervention.

The Department of Immigration said that the Embassy of Haiti in Nassau has been informed of the death of this Haitian citizen, whose identity and cause of death have not been publicly disclosed.
