Haiti - Social : Last working day in Brasilia for Sophia Martelly

Ms. Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of Haiti has completed yesterday Friday, his second and last working day in Brasilia as part of a series of towards the launch in Haiti of "Aba grangou", a comprehensive program of support to food for the disadvantaged.

Friday morning, Ms. Martelly visited the Kindergarten 321 North, a public school of the Federal District, where she experienced the school canteen for a comparative approach as to what is done in Haiti.

In the afternoon, she met Antonio Patriota, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. The Chancellor congratulated Ms. Martelly for her commitment in the fight against hunger before emphasizing that Haiti can gain a lot from the positive experience of Brazil, given the social similarities between the two countries.

The First Lady also met with Mr. Marco Farani, Minister Director of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), which proposes to put at the disposition of Haiti the necessary technical resources as an accompaniment in the development of its strategy to fight against hunger. He also promised to assist in the mobilization of financial resources for the implementation of ABA GRANGOU.

The visit of exploration of the strategy "FOME ZERO", has allowed to the delegation to understand that the success of the program requires good coordination, the involvement of several sectors and a decentralization of teh services. The social security program, as designed in Brazil, do not represent expenditures for the state, but an investment that stimulates the economy. "FOME ZERO" has allowed millions of families to out of the poverty.

The delegation will return to Port-au-Prince this Sunday, October 16, 2011.
