Haiti - Politic : The Biden administration proceeded Thursday to a deportation flight to Haiti

Thursday, August 31, 2023, 24 hours after urging U.S. citizens living in Haiti to leave the country as soon as possible for security reasons, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a deportation flight with more than 60 Haitians on board.

This deportation flight, the second to Haiti this month (on August 2nd ICE had repatriated 55 people to Haiti), left Alexandria, Louisiana shortly before 8 a.m. EDT, landing in Port-au-Prince shortly after 11 a.m. in the morning.

Guerlain Joseph, Executive Director of the Haiti Bridge Coalition, said, "You cannot evacuate (US citizens) and repatriate Haitians in the process. It is more than inhuman. This is definitely a violation of human rights."

For his part Steven Forester, coordinator of immigration policy at the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti declared "What is inadmissible is that the United States supports an illegitimate regime responsible for the infernal conditions that Haitians endure every day [...] The United States must not deport people to Haiti [...]"
