Friday, December 8, 2023, in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken 6 Concerned Democratic Representatives, (Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), Yvette Clarke (N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), Barbara Lee (Calif.), Jan Schakowsky (Ill.) and James McGovern (Mass.)), called on the Biden administration to withdraw support for a planned multinational intervention in Haiti as well as the country's acting prime minister and instead focus on banning gangs to access weapons and ammunition "There are no manufacturers of weapons and ammunition in Haiti, instead gangs rely on shipments from the United States to arm themselves," they wrote.

"Another armed foreign intervention in Haiti will not bring about the necessary Haitian-led transition to democratic government, but rather risks further destabilizing the country, endangering more innocent people and consolidating the current illegitimate regime"

Recalling "Earlier this year, Kenyan security forces killed at least 23 people during protests raising concerns with both the UN and Amnesty International Kenya over police brutality..."

"In the absence of clear objectives for this mission (Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS)), we firmly believe that financing this security operation in tandem with continued support to the de facto Haitian authorities is a strategy ill-advised which could have catastrophic repercussions for the Haitian people."

"Rather than hastily remedying this situation by supporting foreign armed intervention, a strategy that has been tried and failed repeatedly in Haiti, [...] We believe that a true commitment to supporting the Haitian people requires that the United States withdraws its support for de facto Prime Minister Ariel Henry and encourages negotiations for a democratic political transition led by Haitians [...] the only viable path for Haiti to regain stability and democracy."
