This Monday, December 25, 2023, on the occasion of Christmas, Lesly Condé, Ex-Consul General of Haiti in Chicago (2004-2018) delivered, as every year, a message of reflection to all Haitians, which we invite you to read and share.

Message from Lesly Condé:

"Dear compatriots and friends from everywhere,

I fully appreciate the enormous privilege you grant me by accepting that I keep you company during this precious time of the year. I know that the holiday season is reserved for family, good friends, delicious memories and that grandiose feeling of deep gratitude that inhabits us all at the end of a year in which challenges were identified, obstacles overcome, and errors corrected.

As we celebrate the Christmas of 2023, we prepare to welcome 2024 with its own challenges, its own surprises and its own lessons. This year 2024, we all want it to be prosperous and safe. The lessons we learned, and the experiences we gained this year will help us be more successful in 2024. As for me, nothing equals the happiness that these few moments spent with you bring me. I wish you a happy holiday season and all the best.

However, while we enjoy the best times of the year in the pleasant company of family and friends, we must not lose sight of the depth of the symbolism of Christmas. If the savior of the human race came into the world in such modest conditions, it is to give us all a lesson in humility. It is this humility that predisposes us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to accept them despite their imperfections. The holiday season is a time for smiles, tolerance and forgiveness. If the spirit of the holiday season could last all year, we would have a much better world.

We must constantly thank the Most High for accompanying us in all our actions, and for sparing us from dangers of which we are not even aware. We must also share our good humor and our moments of joy. A simple smile has the power to brighten a stranger's life. In this blessed moment of the holiday season, let us think of our dear Haiti, and let us not hesitate to reach out to someone in need. There is no limit to what love can accomplish.

In closing, I urge you once again to exercise caution and moderation; while wishing you a Merry Christmas in Peace and security."
