Haiti - Insecurity : Land Transport Sector, terrible 2023 assessment (final)

The Haitian Land Transport Sector (STTH) and the Association of Owners and Drivers of Haiti (APCH) revealed the heavy final assessment of this sector for the year 2023

• 10 Drivers kidnapped by armed individuals, most recently December 28, 2023;

• 23 drivers killed including 6 burned bodies, most of them were killed in the presence of armored vehicles of the National Police of Haiti (PNH);

• 5 drivers injured by police officers. The latest was December 23 in Belladère;

• 382 passengers kidnapped by heavily armed bandits, particularly in Gros Morne and Liancourt, Morne Cabrit. Transport companies such as REMITO and Capital Coach Line are the main victims;

• 146 Vehicles hijacked with goods and occupants;

• 14 vehicles hit by bullets from bandits and the PNH at Source Matelas, Gressier, Canaan;

• 187 passengers injured in Bon Repos, Cannan, Morne Cabrit, Beudet, Sources Matelas, Marliques, Torcelle, Martissant, Liancourt, Mariani. The last five as of December 29 at "kafou pèy" https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-41327-icihaiti-carrefour-paye-a-minibus-full-of-passengers-riddled-with-bullets.html ;

• 79 Passengers killed including the bodies of 31 of them burned;

• 68 vehicles burned in Marlique, Carrefour Feuille, Savien, Liancourt, Canaan, Mariani, Torcelles, Pernier, Bon Repos;

• 62 Vehicles damaged by PNH machines in Canaan, Source mattress, Beudet, Torcelle, Pernier, Blvd Harry Truman, Mariani.
