Haiti - Security : More than a dozen people lost their lives

Since this last weekend, more than a dozen people have lost their lives violently in Mariani (north-east of Port-au-Prince), in Delmas and in downtown Port-au-Prince.

In a first event on Saturday January 6, no less than 5 passengers (7 according to some sources), most of them small merchants, who were trying to travel by sea were shot dead and several others kidnapped, including 3 women, during an attack perpetrated by armed bandits from Mariani on several boats providing public transport by sea for the Le Lambi-Lamentin route.

In a second event, the bodies of 9 people partially charred, including 7 men and 2 women, were found on Sunday January 7 at Delmas 19, on a waste dump site. They would have been killed in another place and left in the area, according to local residents. Only one body was immediately identified, said PNH spokesperson Garry Desrosiers.

And finally yesterday Tuesday, January 9, the lifeless bodies of two men, shot and killed, lying on the ground, were discovered on avenue Poupelard, not far from Street Caravelle.

For their part, specialized units of the Haitian National Police PNH continue their operations in an attempt to dislodge the gangs.

The latest information is that a female hostage and 4 children who were kidnapped on a public transport sailboat on Saturday have been released, however no information is available for the other hostages.
