Haiti - Humanitarian : $5.4 million to respond to urgent food security needs...

The NGO CORE Community Organized Relief Effort (formerly J/P HRO) which has been working in Haiti for nearly 15 years has received a $5.4 million grant from the Humanitarian Assistance Office (BHA ) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID-Haiti) for a 15-month project in Haiti aimed at meeting the urgent food security and water needs of 159,000 Haitians.

This critical funding will provide water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) relief, cash and agricultural assistance to promote food security outcomes, prevent spread of cholera in five municipalities in the Nippes department and strengthen local economic capacity.

CORE will use this grant to respond to the acute food crisis in Nippes by providing cash assistance to approximately 5,145 households, helping them cover their basic food needs during the year. To reduce long-term food insecurity, CORE is collaborating with Acceso to work with local farmers to increase production capacity and minimize post-harvest losses throughout 2024 by providing in-kind agricultural inputs and training.

Working closely with local partners, CORE will rehabilitate the current water supply by repairing five existing systems and promote hygiene through the provision of 4,000 locally purchased cholera household kits, to reduce and mitigate the effects of disease on the community.
