Haiti - FLASH : Exchange of fire between BSAP agents and PNH units

Wednesday January 24, 2024 following a press conference by agents of the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP) who denounced the dismissal of Jeantel Joseph https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41510-haiti-news-zapping.html their former Director General of the National Agency for Protected Areas (ANAP) and an ally of Guy Philippe; Heavily armed BSAP agents accompanied by several hundred demonstrators marched through the streets of Ouanaminthe demanding the departure of the Prime Minister and tried in vain to take control of customs. The demonstrators encountered strong resistance from agents of several units of the Haitian National Police (PNH) including the Intervention Brigade (BI), the Departmental Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO), and the Border Police (PoliFRONT) who firmly rejected their attempt.

BSAP agents erected barricades of burning tires and confronted the PNH forces, exchanging fire. No casualties have been officially reported.

Shortly after this failure, frustrated BSAP agents ordered business owners on RN #6 to close their doors and announced and fired in all directions, spreading panic among the population.

Should be noted that the day before, Jeantel Joseph, the former DG of ANAP, was present in Hinche for the launch of the movement called "National March for the Liberation of the Country", informing that he wanted to take control of the Great North before going down alongside the members of the BSAP in Port-au-Prince...
