Haiti - Culture : Voodoo procession in Jacmel

At the initiative of sector Voodoo, a traditional procession was organized in the streets of Jacmel on Tuesday 1st November 2011, to celebrate the feast of "All Saints" and "All Souls' Day". There were hundreds of voodoo practitioners from different temples and Lakou to roam in the streets dressed mostly in white, black and purple. Throughout the course, they sing with a firm voice their god, and at the head of the procession a believer with a cross. At each station, a special ceremony is performed by one of the voodoo priests, leaders of this cultural event.

Early in the morning, several families have visited the cemetery of Jacmel to visit the tombs of a member or family friend died. Traditional cleaning was done in the tombs by some members of these families in the city cemetery to honor the memory of the deceased.

Since the eve of the celebration of the feast of All Saints and All Souls' Day on November 1-2, ceremonies of prayer and sacrifice are organized in the various temples and Lakou of the cultural city. The rituals of drums and sticks resound through the city of Jacmel.

Recall that, in the town of Jacmel there is now an erosion of values, in the commemoration of these two days, compared to the tradition of "Guédé".
