iciHaiti - PNH Bel-Air : Major seizure of ammunition and other materials

Thursday February 8, 2024 around 2:00 p.m. an operation carried out by the Departmental Directorate of the West (DDO-1), involving several specialized units (BLVV, BOID, and BRI) of the Haitian National Police (PNH) resulted in the interception of a gray Toyota Prado vehicle at ruelle Félix, located in Bel-Air, in which was discovered and seized, among other things, a 45 caliber pistol, more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition of different calibers and various materials .

Some elements of the seizure: 608 762/39 cartridges, 222 762/51 cartridges, 753 556 cartridges, 5 tear gas bombs, a ballistic vest, 17 blue jerseys and two mobile phones, materials which were handed over to the Departmental Security Service. Judicial Police (SDPJ- Ouest-1), for the necessary follow-up.

Furthermore, the same day following this operation Evelyne Frédéric (32 years old), concubine of Kempes, gang leader of Bel-Air, was arrested by the Police, at Rue Lamarre around 3:00 p.m.

According to information available to the Police, for approximately three months, Evelyne Frédéric's main role was to monitor the area around the Hospital of the State University of Haiti on a daily basis to inform when the way was clear in order to facilitate passage. to vehicles transporting weapons and ammunition from Grand'Ravine to Bel-Air. In addition, she also played the role of scout, identifying people who were to be kidnapped by the Bel-Air gang.
