Haiti - Education : Workshop on new subjects in 9th A.F.

Saturday February 10, 2024 ended a 5-day workshop during which more than twenty technicians from the Ministry of National Education (MENFP) worked on the development of content for the four new subjects for the 9th fundamental year class, namely : Education in technology and productive activities (ETAP), Aesthetic and artistic education (EEA), Physical and sports education (EPS) and Citizenship education (EC).

The Minister of Education Nesmy Manigat by videoconference praised the determination of these technicians mobilized since last year on this important project of curriculum reform. "The work that you do today will mark Haitian society for the next 10, 15, 25 years" recalling the need to transform Haitian schools to the point of giving each learner the diversity of skills they need to live , work and participate in the process of producing goods and services wherever they are, in Haiti and abroad.

Manigat highlighted the need for this workshop to succeed in producing practical content in terms of educational and didactic transformation taking into account these four new disciplines in 2024 which is a pilot year in terms of generalized teaching of these new subjects at the level of the 9th Fundamental Year (A.F.)

Three documents should come out of this workshop:

- The methodological guide for teachers;

- The exercise book for learners;

- Guidelines on official evaluation.

These educational, didactic and evaluative tools will be available at the end of February, guaranteed Kendy Nicolas the Director of Fundamental Education, who spoke of the major steps already taken in relation to the teaching of these disciplines. He mentioned the finalization, formatting and distribution to all schools in the country of the programs developed within the framework of the "New Citizen Education Oriented towards the Future" (NECTAR) Project, relating to these new subjects.
