Haiti - FLASH : Update on the situation (March 5, 2024)

Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the surroundings of the penitentiary spread the smell of decomposing corpses, making the area particularly unbearable for the residents and the few passers-by who crowded around, turning their heads away with their hands on their noses...

Violent shootings, looting, clashes with police, kidnappings and arson were reported throughout the day. Hundreds of people had to abandon displacement camps and their homes to avoid being victims of armed gangs...

Heavily armed men burst into the premises of the Congregation Saint-Joseph de Cluny, in the community of Madeline, and kidnapped three nuns, some of whom were foreigners, the Haitian Conference of Religious confirmed.

Schools and universities still closed

In Croix-des-Bouquets, controlled by the "400 Mawozo" gang, several state institutions were vandalized in this commune, including the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI). Sogebank and Unibank were vandalized. The National Credit Bank was looted, the thugs took away the safe.

In Bon repos, rice depots, Autoparts, bars, transfer houses, hardware stores, beauty studios, almost all the businesses were looted.
