Haiti - FLASH : Hundreds of thousands of students and teachers risk losing their files

Hundreds of thousands of students and teachers risk losing their files due to the violent situation in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince, where schools and offices of the Ministry of National Education have been vandalized or are still under threat of violence.

The Ministry of National Education believes that these actions will cause irreparable damage, such as the disappearance of school archives. Thus, many students will have difficulty obtaining their transcripts and diplomas; many teachers will have difficulties in their careers if they cannot prove the papers obtained. The absence of these documents can block the academic progress of pupils and students, just as it can block the professional progress of teachers.

The digitization of archives, in its current phase, will allow the ministry to protect only part of the data it produces or manages. The Ministry continues to work to protect the integrity of the transcript and diploma system.

Through the Education Information and Management System (EMIS), the Ministry ensures that efforts will continue to collect and make available system data. It is in this sense that the Ministry thanks while encouraging all the actors, all the partners involved in the digitization and sharing of all online data concerning schools, students and teachers.

Schools are a public good that deserves to be protected at all times and everywhere across the Republic. It is up to all citizens to get involved in the defense of this public good.
