Global Affairs Canada (GAC) said Friday that soldiers from Canada's elite special forces unit are currently working with the embassy in Port-au-Prince to assist with "contingency planning," but are not did not provide further details.

According to GAC, there are currently 3,039 Canadians in Haiti registered with the registration service for Canadians abroad. It also said its Emergency Monitoring and Response Center had responded to 245 requests since March 3rd, mainly regarding general travel information and the general security situation.
