Haiti - Insecurit y: Special flights for vulnerable French people wishing to leave Haiti

Due to the interruption of commercial air links with Port-au-Prince, the Quai d'Orsay has made special flights available to the most vulnerable French nationals who want to leave Haiti's plagued to attacks by armed gangs.

Around 1,100 French people, including a large number of dual nationals, live in Haiti, according to figures from the Quai d'Orsay. No figures have been communicated on the number of French people wanting to leave Haiti.

The Quay d'Orsay specifies that this is not an evacuation strictly speaking, but an opportunity offered to vulnerable nationals, namely elderly people and people undergoing medical treatment to leave the country. The families of these people will also be able to accompany them.

These flights, which began on Sunday, are carried out by French army helicopters. The French nationals concerned are transported to a helicopter carrier, before being evacuated by sea to Guadeloupe or Martinique before deciding whether to stay on the islands or return to France.

Nationals wishing to leave Haiti are invited to report to the French Embassy in Port-au-Prince at +509 29 99 90 90 if they have not already done so. https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-41926-icihaiti-notice-the-french-embassy-lists-french-nationals-wishing-to-leave-haiti.html

The French Embassy in Port-au-Prince remains open and continues its (reduced) activities despite the degraded conditions. It remains fully mobilized in support of the French community on site https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41916-haiti-news-zapping.html
