Haiti - Politic : Installation of the new Minister of Economy and Finance

The Prime Minister, Garry Conille, installed Madame Ketleen Florestal as Minister of the Economy and Finance (also Minister of Planning. She replaces the Minister of Finance Michel Patrick Boivert and the Minister of Planning Ricard Pierre.

The Head of Government called on the new minister to show insight and responsibility in order to meet the challenges that await her and provide immediate responses to current socio-economic emergencies. Conille recognizes that the many challenges facing the country undermine the management of Haiti's finances. For him, we must consider all possibilities of opportunities to put the country back on the democratic and sustainable development track.

He also urged the new Minister to strengthen cooperation with international technical and financial partners to allow Haiti to benefit from the expertise necessary for a solid partnership, based on trust and a sense of responsibility.

In her speech Katleen Florestal declared "I am convinced that the Ministry of Economy and Finance will have an exceptional role to play in economic recovery, job creation, poverty reduction and strengthening physical health and mental health of the population and the improvement of their living conditions."

For the new Minister "achieving the set objectives requires effective collaboration between the different sectoral entities of the State, a significant contribution from the private business sector, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and judicious coordination interventions of the country’s technical and financial partners."

Ketleen Florestal, specialist in economics and international affairs, has a long career in international organizations. Ms. Florestal holds a Master's degree in International Affairs (MIA) from Columbia University (1997) in Economic Policy Management and a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University in Applied Economics. She also studied law at the State University of Haiti (1988-1992). She received her bachelor's degree in economics from Princeton University (1986). Before working at the World Bank, she was senior economist for Haiti and the Bahamas at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Previously, she worked as an advisor to the Executive Director for Haiti at the IMF. She held numerous positions within the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Haiti, including member and coordinator of the Minister's technical cabinet, and held the position of Head of the Credit Management Department at the Bank for several years. Central Haiti (BRH). She speaks Creole, French and English fluently and is fluent in Spanish.
