Haiti - Economy : Reopening of China's trade development office in Haiti

Friday July 19, 2024, as the security situation in Haiti gradually improves, the staff of the Trade Development Office of the People's Republic of China (PRC), resumed their activities in Haiti with the help of the Haitian authorities, said Lin Jian Spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a press briefing.

Lin said that although China and Haiti have not yet established diplomatic relations, the business development offices in the respective capitals provide an important channel of communication and exchange between the two sides.

Earlier this year, due to the deteriorating security situation in Haiti, many countries temporarily closed their diplomatic and commercial missions in Haiti and evacuated their nationals.

Adding that after assisting in the safe evacuation of Chinese citizens in Haiti, the business development office had temporarily relocated to Santo Domingo in April 2024.
