Haiti - Security : 700 police officers, retrained, reinforced and trained

700 Haitian police officers of department of the West have over the last 2 months be able to be retrained, strengthen their capacity or acquire new knowledge in first aid, technical of rescue at sea and swimming in particular for the Coast Guard, the BLTS or the administrative police. The training took place in the Directorate of Schools and of the Continuing Education (DEFP) by instructors from the United Nations Police (UNPOL).

Many police officers from the 20th and 21st promotions have begun to be retrained, because during their initial training they have not had the opportunity to master all the fundamentals, these promotions were problematic in their behavior, as the non-compliance with basic principles in handling their service weapons...

During this refresher courses the young officers were able to consolidate their knowledge in areas such as report writing, ethics and deontology, regulations...

At the level of current first aid courses, currently 1.700 rescuers, 40 instructors and five 5 master instructors in first aid of the PNH were trained by April 2013, the PNH should be autonomous because it will then have 50 master trainers, 450 trainers and 7,000 officers trained in first aid by St John Ambulance as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between the PNH, MINUSTAH and the Canadian NGO St. John Ambulance.

One hundred agents which must integrate the Office for the Fight against drug trafficking (BLTS) have received specialized training, subdivided into four parts, namely the Basic Criminal Investigation accompanied by notions of criminal proceedings, the identification of drugs with the study of the appearance of drugs, tactics and strategies on the ground including how to question a suspect and the weapon and shooting with guns of various calibers in different circumstances.

From October 10 to 14, 2011, 59 men and 6 women coastguard have received training in technical rescue at sea to the Admiral Killick naval base, thir HQ located in Carrefour. Under the supervision of 8 instructors of the Minustah they have learned survival skills such as fetal position, or the cluster, the dangers related to the sea, they are also familiar with the use and the utility of lifejackets, the hypothermia and first aid measures...
