Haiti - Politic : Round table between the Eminent Personalities Group and the Commander of the MMSS

On Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Kenny Anthony, EPG Coordinator and former Prime Minister of Saint Lucia and Mr. Bruce Golding, Former Prime Minister of Jamaica, led a delegation of seven team of Eminent Persons and the Bahamas for a round table meeting with Force Commander Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police Godfrey Otunge, Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM).

Others in attendance included: Ambassador Director General Jerusa Ali, Ambassador Colin Granderson, Special Advisor on Haiti to the CARICOM Secretary-General, Ms. Elizabeth Solomon, Assistant Secretary-General (Foreign and Community Relations, CARICOM Secretariat) Ms. Anna Lisa Jones-Reis, Officer, Foreign and Community Relations, CARICOM Secretariat, and Captain Chapell Whyms-Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Eminent Person's main agenda was to understand how MSSM had taken off and some of the challenges and teething problems that needed to be addressed to enable other contributing countries to send their personnel to Haiti for the Mission.

They reiterated their commitment to seeing the Mission succeed since Kenya had taken a bold step in leading and deploying her officers to Haiti.

hey appreciated the steps and measures the Mission had taken to work in tandem with PNH to recapture some of the critical infrastructure. They promised to catalyze the deployment of other contributing countries, especially from Caricom. Otunge thanked the delegation for the timely meeting and brought them to speed with the pre-deployment status that the Mission was still undertaking. He stressed the rationale behind the creation of Forward Operating Bases (FOB) and the need to have helicopters for the Mission.
