Haiti - Dominican Rep. : A gang of Haitian thieves dismantled

On Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Dominican National Police (PND) reported that Pierre Péguy alias "Joni" a known criminal from Haiti Leader of a gang of the "400 Mawozo", at the head of a band of Haitians, was dedicated in the Dominican Republic to the theft of goods on the Joaquín Balaguer highway, which connects Santiago de los Caballeros to Navarrete and other cities of Cibao.

The PND dismantled this gang in simultaneous and coordinated interventions in Santiago and the municipality of Villa Altagracia. 15 people members of the gang of thieves were arrested : 14 men and one woman (a Haitian-Dominican wife of "Joni"). The police said they were continuing to actively search for the leader of this gang who managed to escape...

During the operations, the authorities recovered a stolen truck, three solar panels, several pairs of shoes of different types and colors, a tablet and bags of various food products (rice, oil, eggs, spaghetti, among others...), stolen goods that were then resold in Haiti.
