Haiti - FLASH : The ULCC in the BNC case, requests criminal actions against 3 Transitional Advisors (Report)

On Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024, during an official ceremony, Me Hans Jacques Ludwig Joseph, Director of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) transmitted to justice the investigation report on the allegations of solicitation of 100 million Gourdes by three members of the Presidential Transitional Council (Smith Augustin, Emmanuel Vertilaire and Louis Gérald Gilles) to facilitate the reappointment of Raoul Pascal Pierre-Louis as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Credit Bank (BNC).

Me Hans Jacques Ludwig Joseph declared "The conclusions of the investigation conducted by the commission mandated for this purpose are unequivocal [...]"

In the summary of the investigation report, the ULCC calls for concrete criminal actions to bring to justice the main actors involved in this case. The ULCC recommends "initiating public action against : Smith Augustin, Emmanuel Vertilaire and Louis Gérald Gilles for abuse of office, payment of bribes and passive corruption." The ULCC also recommends "initiating public action against Raoul Pascal Pierre-Louis for obstruction of the functioning of justice, abuse of office, payment of bribes, active corruption."
