Haiti - Economy : Cap Haitien International Airport will be ready in February 2013

Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, Laurent Lamothe announced that the Cap Haitien International Airport will be ready in February 2013, the work is done with the assistance of Cuba and Venezuela for a cost of 33 million dollars, after thanking all the participants of the meeting which took place today, especially the Ambassador of Cuba, the representative of the tripartite cooperation Venezuela-Cuba-Haiti, and the Minister of Planning and external cooperation, Jude Hervé Day, the Minister Lamothe declared :

"Today we had a very important meeting where we talked about the cooperation between Cuba and Haiti, especially in terms of technical assistance, [...] we will try to make the development of the country through airports. Venezuela, through the tripartite cooperation Venezuela-Cuba-Haiti will help us to rebuild the airport of Cap Haitien, so today we looked at the calendar and the airport will be ready in February 2013, we looked at the various parameters to see how us, the Haitian Government, we can help them move forward as much as possible in this work."

"Then we have three cooperation agreements that we signed with Cuba [...] they promised us a technical assistance to the international airport, they will help us with all the safety measures and air navigation. We are very pleased and we think this is another victory for the people."

"They have also presented a study they did for all other airports in the country, we will look at this study [...], the President had committed to rebuild the airport of Port-de-Paix, Hinche and Jeremie..."

Before concluding the Foreign Minister reiterated his thanks to the two countries in charge of the reconstruction of the airport "I would like to thank them once again, thank the Cuban government and the Venezuelan government of efforts that they do for Haiti, we really appreciate them and we say tham that the collaboration is just beginning, they can rely on the new Haitian government, if there are problems we will be there to help solve them..."
