Haiti - Education : 13,000 brand new school benches for the 2024-2025 school year (Video)

Friday, October 18, 2024, Yves Roblin, Director General of the Ministry of National Education (MENFP) accompanied by Jean Ronald Joseph Director General of the National Education Fund (FNE) visited the National Industrial Parks Company (SONAPI) warehouse where thousands of brand new school benches will be distributed to national schools throughout the country.

According to Professor Roblin, the manufacture of these benches was part of the planning framework intended to properly prepare for the 2024-2025 school year. It is a major effort to allow students to learn in better conditions.

The manufacture of these 13,000 benches is the result of a public procurement contract in which several local companies participated. Therefore, it is not the benches that come from abroad, but Haitian craftsmen who manufacture them. The FNE mobilized 346 million gourdes for this contract.

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the FNE has already distributed 2,500 benches in the North department, 1,000 benches in the Center department.

Jean Ronald Joseph indicated that the distribution will continue in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, where many national schools have lost their equipment, because they have been abandoned or because these schools have become shelters to accommodate people who have fled their homes because of the violence and who have transformed desks, tables and cupboards into wood to light the fire…

As in the North department, the Center department and in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, Jean Ronald Joseph guarantees that the distribution of these benches will reach all the other departments according to the facts and needs of each.
