Haiti - FLASH : The convent and hospital of the Missionaries of Charity, vandalized, looted and burned

The convent and hospital of the Missionaries of Charity in Port-au-Prince, in which the sisters of Mother Teresa welcomed and treated for free up to 30,000 people per year for 47 years, one of the last respected places, was vandalized, looted and burned by heavily armed individuals.

They demolished part of the walls and completely emptied the convent and the hospital. Benches, beds, medical equipment... everything was taken and some objects are already being resold on a market near St Joseph in Port-au-Prince.

This is the first time that the Missionaries of Charity have been attacked in Haiti. Until now, the gangs respected their essential mission to the population. "Barbecue", the gang leader is said to be behind this attack.

No sister was injured in this cowardly and savage attack. Let us recall that at the end of September, the police had asked the nuns to leave the neighborhood and close their house, the fights with the gangs becoming dangerous for the lives of the sisters.

The missionaries are currently sheltered in the other community of the sisters of Mother Teresa in Haiti. Note that never until now had the missionaries had to leave their house, which had become the heart of the neighborhood.
