Haiti - FLASH : FAA extends restrictions on US aircraft flights to Haiti until March 2025

Following the reopening of Toussaint Louverture International Airport on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43820-icihaiti-flash-reopening-of-toussaint-louverture-international-airport.html , while the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) had stated in a press release that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) "had made the decision to lift the ban on flights to Haiti", the FAA announced on Wednesday that it was extending the restrictions on commercial flights for aircraft of American companies operating in Haitian airspace until March 12, 2025.

It should be recalled that in a NOTAM (notice to pilots), the FAA had prohibited flight operations below 10,000 feet in certain areas of the sky above Haiti on November 11, 2024 for a duration of at least 30 days on November 11 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43621-haiti-flash-us-airlines-banned-from-flying-over-haiti-for-30-days.html after 3 planes were hit by bullets at or near the Port-au-Prince airport : Spirit Airlines (at least 7 impacts https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43614-haiti-flash-spirit-airlines-plane-hit-in-flight-by-several-bullets-video.html ), JetBlue (1 impact) and American Airlines (1 impact) https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43623-icihaiti-insecurity-the-ministry-of-justice-condemns-the-shootings-on-planes.html

These restrictions were modified on November 20, 2024 https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43680-icihaiti-notice-faa-eases-flight-ban-in-haiti.html to authorize flights over the northern regions of Haiti, including the city of Cap-Haïtien.
