On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Augustin Antoine, the Minister of National Education, and Brother Augustin Nelson, Provincial Superior of Haiti of the Congregation of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Partnership on the reconstruction of educational infrastructure.

Under the terms of this protocol, the two parties agree to set up a technical and financial support system to mobilize resources for the reconstruction of educational infrastructure and the modernization of the Congregation's schools.

The implementation of this MoU will begin with the reconstruction of the buildings of the Saint-Jean l'Evangéliste School destroyed during the earthquake of January 12, 2010. This project will be fully financed by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

Minister Augustin Antoine is pleased with the signing of this agreement and pledges his word regarding the respect of the Ministry's responsibilities while calling on the Province of Haiti of the Congregation of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart to do the same, especially with regard to the proper conduct of the project.

According to certain clauses of this partnership, the religious Congregation must "maintain tuition fees at the level of the year preceding the investments in the reconstruction of the School, or even reduce them if possible, depending on the evolution of the numbers and certain economic parameters."

Another provision obliges the Congregation to "continue, in accordance with the educational policies and the Ten-Year Plan of the Ministry and for at least 10 years, the evening shift for the benefit of children and young people from needy families and to coexist a national fundamental school which will be run exclusively by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in accordance with the agreements existing between the two parties."
