Haiti - Economy : Analysis of Haiti's economic performance (2024)

The Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI) published this week the 2024 Economic Accounts report.

This annual report offers an in-depth analysis of Haiti's economic performance, marked by a 6th consecutive year of negative growth with a contraction in real GDP (-4.2%), estimated at 568 billion constant Gourdes.

Despite this difficult context, the report notes several encouraging signs : a notable deceleration in inflation, with an annual average that fell from 44.1% in 2023 to 25.8% in 2024, and an unprecedented increase in remittances from the diaspora, reaching USD 4.1 billion (+9.5%). These contributions have played a key role in maintaining household consumption in the face of economic and security challenges.

The report also highlights opportunities, including the strategic importance of the Rapid Crisis Impact Assessment Report (RCIA) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43864-haiti-flash-to-recover-haiti-needs-134-billion-dollars-2024-2026.html and moves to renew the Haitian Hemisphere Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement (HOPE) and Haitian Economic Lift Program (HELP) to boost investment and revive key sectors such as textiles, while emphasizing the urgent need to address the scourge of insecurity. Le's recall that the HOPE II and HELP laws played a decisive role in Haiti's garment industry, which before the crisis represented more than 80% of national export revenues and 90% of formal jobs
