Haiti - Humanitarian : Donation of 6 million US$ from the Republic of South Korea

The Government of the Republic of Korea announced a donation of $6 million to the United Nations humanitarian efforts in Haiti, underscoring its continued commitment to support critical programs that address the urgent needs of the Haitian people, split between UNICEF, OCHA, and UNDP, with each agency receiving $2 million.

This funding not only underscores the Republic of Korea’s broader commitment to supporting the well-being and future of Haitian children, but also strengthens the strong and enduring bilateral ties between Korea and Haiti.

Ms. Geeta Narayan, UNICEF Representative in Haiti, expressed her gratitude for the support, "We are deeply grateful for this partnership, which demonstrates Korea’s trust in UNICEF and our unwavering commitment to the well-being of children affected by the devastating crises in Haiti. This support will enable UNICEF and its partners to provide children in Haiti with access to essential services such as health and education, so that they are prepared to build a better future for Haiti."

Ambassador LEE Sang Ryul of Korea to the Dominican Republic, also accredited to Haiti, stressed "[....] among other objectives, I hope that this humanitarian support contributes to providing better health care and education to Haitian children, because the Republic of Korea has learned through its history and economic development that they represent the future of the country."

These contributions reflect the role of the Republic of Korea as an active and responsible actor in humanitarian and development efforts. Through its partnerships, Korea continues to help address critical challenges, fostering cooperation and partnership for a better future for the Haitian people.
