On Monday, during a ceremony at the headquarters of the Haitian National Police (PNH) in Clercine, the United States Embassy in Port-au-Prince handed over to the PNH a batch of rolling stock including 9 Toyota and Ford vehicles as well as 2 trucks, 2 armored loaders and other heavy equipment

It is also important to note that a batch of 600 rifles were also handed over to the PNH as well as various types of magazines and ammunition.

As part of the existing cooperation between the American Embassy and the Haitian National Police (PNH), through the Office of International Narcotics and Law and Enforcement Affairs (INL), this donation of equipment aims to contribute to strengthening the operational capacities of the police institution in the fight against major transnational crime in Haiti.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Leslie Voltaire, President pro tempore of the Presidential Transitional Council, Rameau Normil, Acting Director General of the PNH, Denis B. Hankins, United States Ambassador to Haiti and Godfrey Otunge, Commander-in-Chief of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMAS).

Ambassador Hankins stated that this donation of equipment will "strengthen the operational capacity of the Police, the Haitian Armed Forces and the Multinational Security Support Mission that are engaged in operations on the ground. This equipment will also allow law enforcement to enter areas under the influence of gangs [...]"

The President of the CPT thanked the American government for the donation of this equipment that will help law enforcement in the fight against armed bandits and firearms in the country. "The rolling stock] will strengthen the capabilities of the PNH in the fight to restore peace and security in the country."
