Haiti - DR : Dominican Chancellor Alvarez recalls the urgency of an international response to the crisis in Haiti

In the context of a recent meeting of the Council of the Americas and Dominican business leaders, Roberto Álvarez, the Dominican Chancellor, highlighted the seriousness of the Haitian crisis and the urgent need for a coordinated response from the international community.

In this context, the Dominican Chancellor highlighted the growing threat posed by the situation in Haiti. "It is essential that the international community support the Kenyan-led Multinational Mission by providing it with increased financial resources, in order to strengthen its operational capacity and ensure that effective action can be carried out," stressing that humanitarian aid is also essential to mitigate the worsening of the crisis and avoid an uncontrollable wave of migration that would affect the Dominican Republic, neighboring states and the United States.

Álvarez also discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation regarding the Haitian situation, an issue that, he said, "has been a priority in recent exchanges with the United States."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, who also participated as a keynote speaker at the Annual Conference of the American Chambers of Commerce in Miami, reaffirmed the Dominican Republic’s commitment to the stability and security of the region, emphasizing that the situation in Haiti affects not only neighboring countries, but the entire hemisphere. "Haiti is experiencing a crisis that threatens to spread, and the international community cannot stand idly by. A unified and vigorous response is essential to prevent the situation from spiraling further out of control."
