Haiti - SCHOLARSHIPS : Anténor Firmin doctoral mobility program 2025-2026, Call for applications
The French Embassy in Haiti, the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) and the Research Institute for Development (IRD) are launching the 5th edition of the Anténor Firmin 2025-2026 program, designed to support doctoral mobility, thereby strengthening research training and scientific cooperation.

Mobilities and their funding are multi-year; the projects presented must therefore schedule travel for the duration of the thesis (3 years maximum). The Anténor Firmin doctoral mobility program will cover research stays abroad, which may last a maximum of six months per academic year.

Who is eligible ? :
- Doctoral students who will register in the first year of their thesis during the 2025/2026 academic year for a period of 3 years and whose system provides for international co-supervision or an international co-supervision agreement are eligible;

- Doctoral students registered in the 2nd year of their thesis for a period of 2 years, and doctoral students registered in the 3rd year of their thesis for a period of 1 year, whose system already provides for international co-supervision or an international joint supervision agreement, may also apply.

Priority will be given to academic staff, particularly female scientists from Haitian universities (teachers, lecturers, temporary staff) who wish to obtain a doctoral degree.

Eligibility criteria :
- Be of Haitian nationality and reside in Haiti;
- Hold at least a master's degree (M2), or equivalent, following a training course conferring research skills;
- Have obtained the agreement of a thesis director in his/her home university (in Haiti) and a thesis director in a host university (in France or elsewhere) to co-direct the thesis.

Research areas :
All applications, in all fields of study will be accepted. The selection committee of the Anténor Firmin program will be particularly attentive to applications in the following areas:

- Climate change and risks;
- Pedagogical innovation, educational technologies;
- Intercomprehension, memory and population movement;
- Sea, water, sanitation and renewable energies;
- Health, biodiversity and food security;
- Economy, Finance and Banking.

Possibility of co-financing :
The Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) is partnering with the Anténor Firmin program by offering additional funding for two laureates based on the quality of the application and the selected research topic.

The IRD funding will cover the months when the doctoral student will be in Haiti, for a maximum of six months per year. Candidates do not need to submit any additional documents; they will be informed of the IRD's decision as soon as possible.

The Anténor Firmin program selection committee will pay particular attention to application files that present material support or co-financing from the home university or the host university, a Haitian institution, an international or foreign organization.

Main criteria used for the selection procedure :
- The academic quality of the file (training, diplomas, employment status);
- The scientific quality of the research project (issue, content, schedule, methodology);
- The assessment of the two co-directors on the importance of the research, the expected benefits, the international collaboration for the university and the host laboratory and the Haitian university;
- The expected results and impacts for the Haitian and Caribbean scientific community and/or the economic and social development of Haiti and the Caribbean region;
- The presentation of a clear and realistic budget;
- The gender balance of the candidates.

Components of the application file :
- 2025-2026 application form duly completed and signed by the doctoral student and the two thesis directors;

- Three-year projected schedule, indicating the progress of the thesis, the periods of stay at the host university and in Haiti, the projected defense date;

- Duly signed thesis directors' recommendation form;

- For theses in international co-supervision: A copy of the co-supervision agreement or, failing that, a draft co-supervision agreement;
- Co-financing arrangements (if existing);
- Detailed curriculum vitae;
- A copy of the latest diploma;
- Photocopy of passport or certified birth certificate extract.

If you are attached to a higher education and research institution in Haiti :
An official letter from your institution confirming your status as a faculty member. This letter will indicate whether you are authorized to be absent during your thesis and, if applicable, whether your employer grants you study leave.

If you are a student :
An official letter from your institution confirming your registration status, the faculty or department, and the expected completion date of your training.

If you are not affiliated with a higher education and research institution in Haiti and are not a student :
A personal letter of reference from an academic or professional in your field in Haiti who can speak to your accomplishments, future aspirations.

Submission of the application file :
- Complete files must be sent by Monday, June 30, 2025 at the latest at 11:59 p.m. (Haiti time), to the email address scac.port-au-prince-amba@diplomatie.gouv.fr

- The candidate's first and last names must be mentioned in the subject of the message;

- Incomplete files will not be taken into account;
- No additional documents will be accepted after the deadline of June 30, 2025.
