Haiti - Economy : The Prime Minister confirms that there is a liquidity problem

Yesterday, the Prime Minister, Garry Conille, for his part has confirmed that there is a liquidity problemat the level of U.S. dollars, on the market, adding that the economy is extremely stable and there is no need to worry because corrective actions taken.

"...I believe that many people have already spoken on that, including the governor of the bank, now I am going to a meeting on the issue just to try to manage it. My understanding of the matter is that we have a liquidity problem [...] the government has already taken a series of measures and we look to see what further measures we will be forced to take [...] among the measure there are meetings with banks to ensure they follow a procedure which is existing regarding the currency management [...] we have put in place a monitoring system to understand and see from where the problem comes in order to address it quickly and we have other discussions that are made with the finance minister and the central bank governor so that there is no slippage"

Garry Conille also states that there is no need to worry and that the situation is under control "...what was reported to me to date as information is that there is no need to worry, the situation is under control, there is not really a problem malfunctioning at the macroeconomic level, on the contrary the economy is extremely stable, as stable as possible despite the circumstances, although there is a liquidity problem that is related to a series of behaviors, and which is linked to a series of phenomena that are relatively new, such as how the negotiations are made with the Dominican Republic and we must take corrective action to ensure that there is no derailment and it's what we do now..."

Maxime Charles, President of the Association of Professional Bank (APB) confirms that there is no problem of dollars, but a lack of availability of paper money, the problem is that people want to withdraw theit money in currency-cash, he therefore recommends the use of other methods of payment such as credit cards, checks or bank transfers. According to him the problem is that foreign banks, which are partners of the BRH, refuse to provide large amounts of currency. He also mentioned that incoming transfers will now be paid in gours or dollar check.
