Haiti - Health : ONA Health Center creation project

On Friday, March 14, 2025, an important meeting was held at the headquarters of the National Old Age Insurance Office (ONA) in Pétion-ville. Ronald Bazile, the Director General, accompanied by D'Johnson Absolus, its Deputy Director General, discussed with the institution's doctors and nurses a project to create health centers dedicated to pensioners, policyholders, employees, and the general public.

This meeting aimed to gather the opinions of ONA's healthcare professionals before officially submitting the project to the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) and the Board of Directors of Social Security Organizations (CAOSS).

Ronald Bazile emphasized the importance of this project, emphasizing that it was fully in line with ONA's mission to strengthen social protection. He emphasized the need to enhance the skills of the institution's medical staff by providing them with a structured and better-equipped work environment.

Beyond the medical aspect, this project also responds to an economic imperative : ensuring the financial viability of the ONA through more dynamic and proactive management of its funds. With this in mind, the General Management aims to strategically invest the institution's resources to maximize their return.

The creation of health centers thus represents an opportunity for financial diversification, generating additional revenue through medical services tailored to the needs of policyholders and the general population. This investment, combined with rigorous and transparent management, aims to strengthen the ONA's sustainability and guarantee better social security coverage for future generations.

Furthermore, during this meeting, several decisions were announced to strengthen the ONA's medical service, including:

- Increasing the number of doctors and nurses in municipal and branch offices;

- The acquisition of modern medical equipment to ensure effective care for beneficiaries;

- The improvement of infrastructure and working conditions for medical staff;

- The launch of a funding program for employees wishing to pursue specialized training in Haiti or abroad.

The medical profession also took the opportunity to express its expectations. In particular, it called for a restructuring of the nursing service, better recognition of their salary scale, and consideration of their training time in their career development.
