Haiti - PAP Airport : Interruption of work on the control tower

The Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) convened officials from the National Civil Aviation Office (OFNAC) and the National Airport Authority (AAN) for a working session to review the arrangements underway for the reopening of Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

The discussions identified the main challenges to be overcome :

1 - The security requirements imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), particularly the airport's 3.2 km perimeter;

2 - The very high insurance costs, classifying the airport as a "war zone".

3 - The Aruba Airlines file is under discussion, particularly regarding the necessary authorizations (insurance and Transportation Security Administration (TSA)).

4 - The interruption of work on the control tower, requiring safety guarantees for technicians.

Authorities reiterated that the airport is not closed, but is operating under certain restrictions. Since November 11, 2024, it has continued to accommodate cargo, military, charter, and South American flights.

The CPT emphasized the need to better inform the public and also announced the interest of Spirit and JetBlue in resuming flights to Cap-Haïtien, following a recent TSA assessment visit.
