Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly back from the 4th CARICOM-Cuba Summit

The President Michel Martelly, accompanied by Foreign Minister Mr. Laurent Lamothe, is returned to the country in early evening of this Friday December 9, after his participation Thursday in the 4th CARICOM-Cuba Summit held in Trinidad And Tobago.

The Head of State expressed his satisfaction with the various meetings with his counterparts of the Caribbean and welcomed the resolution of the member countries of CARICOM, which have agreed to continue helping the Haitian people. In this regard, Cuba has clearly reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen the cooperation with Haiti. The discussions focused on several other axes " [...] all these countries agreed with Cuba to help us rebuild Haiti, but by following the direction of the government, so that they do not make project here and there, and that we can get to act in areas of intervention where we must act. We talked about reconstruction in the areas of education, health, environment, energy, tourism and agriculture. [...]"

Meetings were also held with entrepreneurs from the Caribbean. Already, investors from Trinidad are planning to implement businesses in Haiti. In this sense, the Foreign Minister announced that the implementations are underway regarding the new provisions to be adopted to facilitate the rapid installation of businesses in the country. He has also informed that the follow of the Forum of CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) is ensured by a dynamic team, formed for this purpose. n addition, the Minister Laurent Lamothe announced the signing next week of technical agreements between Haiti and Cuba for the support by the Cuban technicians, of the mechanical maintenance of the fleet of the National Center of Equipment, of SMCRS and of public transport company Dignité.

At the Summit, the Head of State and the Chancellor Lamothe have pleaded so that Haiti can enjoy of the same rights as other member countries of CARICOM "...We discussed of the possibility of establishing an Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago to defend the rights and interests of Haitians and at the same time to ensure the country diplomatic representation with CARICOM and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS)."

he next summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) will be held this summer 2012 in Haiti.
