Haiti - FLASH : CEP activates joint electoral security unit
The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) held a strategic meeting this week to discuss the activation of the joint electoral security unit in preparation for the Constitutional Referendum and the General Elections.

Present at this meeting were, among others, Lieutenant General Derby Guerrier, Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H); Inspector General Joseph Plonquet, Coordinator of the Electoral Security Unit within the Haitian National Police (PNH); Godfrey Otunge, the Kenyan Commander of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS); and a representative of the General Directorate of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

With the nine members of the CEP, accompanied by the Executive Director and officials from the institution's Security Directorate and Unit, the participants discussed the security environment in Haiti, particularly electoral security and the measures to be adopted to ensure a climate conducive to the organization of elections in the country.

At the end of this meeting, it was decided that the joint unit, made up of representatives from all relevant organizations, would meet weekly with the members of the CEP to receive regular updates on the security situation and the measures to be adopted in preparation for the Constitutional Referendum and the General Elections.

The CEP reiterated its commitment to conducting the Referendum and the General Elections with complete independence and transparency, in a sustainable security environment.
