Haiti - Diplomacy : Dominican Ambassador summoned to the Haitian Chancellery

The Haitian Chancellery informs that the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Haiti, Faruk Miguel Castillo, was summoned to the Chancellery on Friday, April 25, 2025, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste.

The Haitian Chancellor expressed the concerns of the Presidential Transitional Council and the Government https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-44767-icihaiti-expulsions-cpt-condemns-dominican-authorities-respond.html regarding the Dominican authorities' inaction in the face of the threats and acts of violence suffered daily by Haitian nationals in the Dominican Republic.

Reaffirming the right of the Dominican authorities to implement their migration policy within their territory, the Haitian Chancellor demanded respect for the rights of our compatriots during repatriation operations, in accordance with the international commitments of both states and the 1999 Repatriation Protocol between the two countries.

He also took the opportunity to reiterate the Haitian government's commitment to developing harmonious relations with the Dominican Republic based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and cooperation.

In response, the Dominican Ambassador pledged to share the Haitian government's concerns with his government. Minister Jean-Baptiste took the opportunity to remind the general population, and particularly Haitians living in the Dominican Republic, that the Haitian government has decided to repatriate, under dignified conditions, compatriots in an irregular migration situation who have expressed their intention to voluntarily return to the country. https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-44762-icihaiti-dominican-rep-the-embassy-of-haiti-assists-all-compatriots-who-wish-to-return-to-the-country.html This program began on Friday, April 25, with the return of a first group of 732 of our nationals.

Minister Jean-Baptiste reiterates his firm commitment to supporting Haitian nationals in this very special situation developing in neighboring territory.
