Haiti - Politic : $125M for drinking water in the Great North

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Alfred Fils Metellus, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Ilan Goldfajn, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), signed an amendment to the agreement for the Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene Project for Urban, Peri-Urban, and Rural Areas in the Far North of Haiti.

With a total budget of US$125 million, the implementation strategy for this project will now be better adapted to Haiti's fragile context, thereby improving its development effectiveness.

This program aims to improve household sanitation conditions in Haiti. It will allow to :

• Strengthen sectoral regulation as well as the technical and commercial management of technical operating centers (CTEs);

• Increase access to water and sanitation services for urban and rural residents; and improve hygiene practices.

Thanks to the Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene Project for Urban, Peri-Urban, and Rural Areas, 11,200 households in the Great North will have access to basic water services in rural areas; and access to drinking water for 122,125 households will be improved.
