Haiti - Cap-Haitien : Success of the celebration if 222nd anniversary of the flag (video)

On Sunday, May 18, 2025, as part of the celebration of the 222nd anniversary of the creation of the Haitian flag, the city of Cap-Haïtien hosted a grand parade rich in color and music, honoring the history, culture, and founding values of the Nation.

In the presence of high-ranking State authorities, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, Fritz Alphonse Jean, President pro tempore of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), members of the Government and the CPT, the Vice-President of the Court of Cassation, the Acting Commander of the Haitian Armed Forces, the Acting Director General of the Haitian National Police, the Mayor of the city of Cap-Haïtien and representatives of the diplomatic corps, the festivities began with a culturally inspired performance paying tribute to Legba, an emblematic figure of the voodoo pantheon, traditionally invoked to open the paths. This solemn moment preceded the raising of the national colors, to the sound of the Dessalinienne and the presidential anthem, in an atmosphere imbued with national pride on the Place d'Armes in Cap-Haïtien, accompanied by a time of silence and reflection on the profound meaning of the Haitian flag.

Hundreds of young people, like thousands of others across the country, expressed their unwavering attachment to the national flag and conveyed messages of unity, solidarity and hope for the future of Haiti.

The parade of pennants, majorettes, and the honor platoon marked the beginning of a day of celebration rich in symbolism around the unifying theme Yon sèl drapo! Yon sèl pèp! Yon sèl nasyon! (One flag! One people! One nation!)

The parade brought together nearly 500 young people, aged 8 to 20, from the city's schools, all professionally supervised by teams from the Ministry of Youth. To close, local brass bands enlivened the streets of Cap-Haïtien in a festive atmosphere, reinforcing the popular and inclusive dimension of this national celebration.

Minister Octavius praised the commitment and discipline of the young participants, the mobilization of schools, as well as the rigorous work of the technicians of the Department of Physical Activities and Sports, whose involvement was decisive in the success of this major event.
