Haiti - Economy : 50 million Euros for Haitian SMEs

Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic of Haiti, met this Wednesday, December 14, 2011, a delegation composed of the Spanish Ambassador in Port-au-Prince, Manuel Hernández Ruigómez, of the Representative of the IDB, in Haiti Mr. Eduardo Almeida and of Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Pierre Richard Casimir.

This meeting follows the various negotiations undertaken by the Head of the Haitian state during his successful trip to Spain in July, around the accompaniment and the support to the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Haitian.

5 months after the funds have arrived. The Spanish Ambassador, Manuel Hernández Ruigómez, came to inform the President Martelly of the routing towards the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) of the economic aid of 50 million euros promised by the President of Spain José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and which is also a guarantee of loans granted to Haitian SMEs.

Thus, from January 2012, the operations will begin and Small and Medium Enterprises will benefit from a system of general credit, from commercial banks of the place that will manage the fund with the IDB.

"Haiti can always rely on Spain" added the Ambassador Manuel Hernández Ruigómez.

The reaction of Spain after the visit of President Martelly is a concrete example of the benefits of travel of the Head of State in order to promote the country and improve the living conditions of the Haitian people.
