Haiti - Social : January 2012, relocation of displaced of Champ de Mars

The Prime Minister of Haiti, Dr. Garry Conille has announced that in the short time since there is a government in place, many advances have been made for those who still live in camps, and the relocation of displaced of Champ de Mars is expected to begin in early January 2012.

Last week the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Haitian government through the Directorate of Civil Protection conducted a campaign to identify the displaced of Champ de Mars, the relocation of the latter will be done very certainly through the program 16/6, where each family receives a sum of 20,000 gourdes to be able to relocate.

"...since the short time that the government is there, we did a lot of progress where we have people under the tents, you've seen the work that was done at the Place St-Pierre, the work ahead in Place Boyer, Parc Vincent..." indicates the the Prime Minister, adding that "The Champ de Mars is now our priority and we announce that the count is finished for the Champ de Mars, we have a whole series of activities that are planned to accompany the people, but I remind you that as part of our vision our objective is not to remove people from the Champ de Mars, but make sure they can go in an area that is safe, where they can live, where they can conduct their business so we a concern to do good.

The project has already started, the source of funding is already secured it's a funding that is quite important, so we hope that the first week of January we will start to see people leave the Champ de Mars..."
