Lionel Delatour, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Haiti to the United States, presented his credentials to U.S. President Donald Trump during a ceremony in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington, D.C.

Lionel Delatour was appointed, by Presidential Order of March 12, 2025, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Haiti to the United States Government.

Ambassador Delatour is a recognized expert in bilateral relations between Haiti and the United States, with extensive knowledge of the Washington institutional landscape, including the U.S. Congress, policy think tanks, and decision-making mechanisms. With over 30 years of experience in political and strategic consulting, he has forged strong relationships with influential decision-makers, helping to advance legislation that promotes Haiti's economic development. He is a graduate of Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Throughout his career, he has provided public policy consulting and advocacy services to numerous Haitian and international companies, government institutions, and private sector organizations. Notably, as a consultant to the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), he played a key role in the adoption of the HOPE Act (2006), the HOPE II Act (2008), and the HELP Act (2010), as well as in advocating for their renewal in 2015 and for the extension of the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act (CBTPA), finally adopted in 2020.

Ambassador Delatour has also served as a strategic advisor to several institutions and organizations operating in key sectors of the Haitian economy, providing his expertise in legislative advocacy before the U.S. Congress and sustainable policy. He is a co-founder and former advisory board member of the Haiti Democracy Project, and a founding member and former President of the Center for Free Enterprise and Democracy (CLED). His diplomatic career began at the Embassy of Haiti in Washington, D.C., where he held various senior positions, eventually becoming Chargé d'Affaires (1979-1988). Now back in Washington as Ambassador, he reaffirms his commitment to advancing the interests of the Haitian nation. His mission is to strengthen the historic and strategic partnership between Haiti and the United States and to mobilize greater support for Haiti's urgent priorities, including national security, humanitarian assistance, economic recovery, diaspora engagement, and migration management.
