Haiti - School Canteens : Donation of processing equipment from France

As part of its support for the National School Canteen Program (PNCS), the French Embassy this week in Camp-Perrin (South Dept.) officially handed over processing equipment to the Organization for Environmental Rehabilitation (ORE), an organization active in the agricultural sector.

This initiative is part of the project aimed at strengthening the capacity of the biofortified corn processing unit (Quality Protein Maize), implemented by ORE, in order to continue meeting the nutritional needs of Haitian schoolchildren.

The ceremony was attended by Me Kevenot Dorvil, General Coordinator of the PNCS, Antoine Michon, French Ambassador to Haiti, Ms. Nesly Honoré, South Departmental Coordinator of the PNCS, the Director General of ORE, technicians, farmers, and PNCS employees, among others.

The equipment donated, including a corn mill, is a key tool that will enable the local processing of corn to supply school cafeterias in the country's southern region. This donation aims to strengthen the local economy and promote food sovereignty by prioritizing local products. It will also contribute to improving the nutritional quality of the meals served to students.

In her speech, Ms. Nesly Honoré, South Departmental Coordinator of the PNCS, emphasized the importance of this equipment, in a context where local processing is becoming crucial to ensuring sustainable and appropriate school meals. She took the opportunity to praise the vision of the PNCS's national coordinator, Me Kevenot Dorvil, who has been actively involved since his arrival at the helm of the institution to stimulate local production and ensure children receive healthy, nutritious meals during school hours.

In his speech, Me Kevenot Dorvil expressed his gratitude to the French government for this tangible support, which is so important for the transmission of corn. He also highlighted the PNCS's approach to strengthening the link between agriculture and education through greater integration of local products into school menus.

Finally, he stated that the inauguration of this processing unit will allow a greater number of students to benefit from healthy meals, while boosting the local agricultural sector. This action illustrates France's commitment to Haiti in the key areas of education, agriculture, and sustainable development.
