This Saturday, the Cuban Civil Defense announced that the remains of a boat was spotted by the Cuban Coast Guard to a hundred meters from Punta de Maisi, located at the eastern end of Cuba.

This sinking resulted in the disappearance of at least 38 Haitian migrants, 21 men and 17 women. The efforts of search and rescue of Cuban forces have so far helped to rescue 87 people, 80 men and seven women, whose four children and are currently receiving care at the international camp of immigrants of Punta Maisi.

The Red Cross and the Coast Guard continued the search and rescue operations n the hope of finding more survivors from the sinking.

Friday, the crew of the American Coast Guard Cutter "Resolute" repatriated 112 Haitian migrants to Cap Haitien, 87 men, 19 women and six children, they were intercepted west of Great Inagua, Bahamas.

"The Coast Guard strongly advises against taking to sea in an attempt to illegally enter the United States," said Capt. Brendan McPherson, 7th Coast Guard District chief of enforcement. "Taking to sea in a grossly overloaded vessel with little or no safety gear needlessly places human lives at risk. The Coast Guard will continue to rescue Haitian migrants from their peril at sea and will always do so in a professional manner that preserves the dignity of all people" he added.
