Haiti - Qatar 2025 World Cup : 3 defeats, 16 goals conceded, end of the dream for Haiti 11/11/2025 04:17:41
On Monday, November 10, 2025, as part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025, our Grenadiers faced Venezuela, the undefeated team from the group stage, on pitch #9 of the Aspire Zone sports complex in Doha. Already unofficially eliminated from the U-17 World Cup, our Grenadiers approached their final group match hoping to save some honor. Despite their best efforts, Haiti lost 4-2 to a well-organized and unpredictable team. Haiti is officially eliminated from the competition. Starting Lineup : Haitian coach Eddy César announced the list of 11 Grenadiers who will play against Venezuela. Eddy made four changes to the starting eleven compared to the previous lineup, bringing in Bill Meranvil, Emerson Laisse, Bernard Dave, and Jacquet Da-Benz. #1 Cliford Gene : Mount Pleasant Academy (Jamaica) #4 Rezil D. Kenson : Mount Pleasant Academy (Jamaica) #5 Miguel Joseph (C) : Mount Pleasant Academy (Jamaica) #6 Bill Meranvil : FC Toro (Haiti) #7 Woodson Félix : Real Hope Academy (Haiti) #10 Emerson Laisse : Mount Pleasant Academy (Jamaica) #11 Franco Celestin : Mount Pleasant Academy (Jamaica) #13 Dave Bernard : Real Hope Academy (Haiti) #16 Emerson Alexis : SLG Academie (Haiti) #17 Zamor Medinel : SLG Academie (Haiti) #19 Da-Benz Jacquet : Aigle Noir Athletic Club (Haiti) Summary : Diego Claut chested in a cross from the left to open the scoring for Venezuela in the 6th minute [1-0]. John Mancilla quickly doubled the lead from the penalty spot after being brought down in the box in the 14th minute [2-0]. A start to the match that confirms our Grenadiers' tendency to start poorly... Gradually, our combative Grenadiers managed to gain better control of the ball and reduced the deficit with a curling right-footed shot from Da-Benz Jacquet in the 41st minute [2-1], a goal awarded after a VAR review that sealed the score at halftime. In the second half, our galvanized Grenadiers came out with renewed purpose, and after a penalty was initially ruled out for Woodson Félix, he equalized thanks to a pinpoint pass from Emerson Laisse in the 72nd minute [2-2]. From then on, our hopeful Grenadiers went on the offensive, aiming to secure Haiti's first-ever World Cup victory. Unfortunately, after a few actions that they could have capitalized on, Eddy César's team conceded a third goal from David Garcia, which gave "La Vinotinto" the lead again in the 80th minute. Two substitutions—Nikolai Pierre replacing Da-Benz Jacquet in the 82nd minute and Rhode Louisaint replacing Emerson Laisse in the 86th—did nothing to change the situation. David Garcia ended the suspense by converting another penalty, his second goal in the 90'+4 standings [4-2], the final score. Defeated [4-2], our Grenadiers finish last in Group E with zero points, having conceded 16 goals and scored only 4. The adventure ends here for Haiti, who exit the U-17 World Cup with a whimper. On its official website, the Haitian Football Federation (FHF) wrote : "In a football match, there are three possible outcomes c: you win, you lose, or you draw. Winning everything is winning, but there are ways to win, and you know you don't deserve to win. Sometimes you just lose, it's like the stars aren't aligned for you, but you do your best to win! It's these kinds of defeats that show you're a true loser. You accept it, you learn from your mistakes, and you grow to be better next time. Haiti leaves this competition with its head held high, standing tall and looking its opponent in the eye because it didn't make things easy for them. A big thank you to all the young Grenadiers, who delivered a performance that we can keep as an example of how we would always like to see our country play ! Thank you, young Grenadiers. The federation is proud of us. The country is proud of us. We continue to work, we continue to fight, to improve the quality of the team, to continue to grow and climb the ranks one by one to be as we all wish, to live an unforgettable moment with our world team."
